writing this post will not do justice for how I felt on Saturday. We absolutely crushed it. All of our competitors gave everything they had. As your coach I am so happy and proud of how everyone handled themselves this past weekend.
Josie- OH MY GOD!!! BEAST MODE TO THE EXTREME!!!! We have a natural born WODKILLA here. I knew Josie was an amazing athlete but holy hell!! First competition ever and she takes 4th!! She got 1st on the row, 3rd on the back squats and 4th on the step ups. She finished 8th in the final workout as well. 4 out of 5 workouts and she is in the top 8 in all of them!! We already knew pullups would be a weak point, but believe me, she will be on top of that podium next time!
Eric- what a crazy day for this kid. Mind you, Eric has been doing CrossFit for less that 4 months. He placed 32 overall. lets break down Eric’s day for ya…..His first workout is at 845 where he takes 3rd in the squats, 49 in the pullups & 4th in the step-ups. Like Josie we have to work on our pull-ups but F**** ME both of our DIII athletes finished 3rd & 4th in the leg portions of this workout?? AWESOMENESS ALL DAY. Then he cranks out a 3:19 row that lands him a 15th place in that event. He leaves for almost the rest of the day due to work related function. He makes it back at 245 and gets thrown into a division 2 heat. Eric made that mistake (and none of us on the sidelines caught it) to use the the Division 2 weights. By the time the workout was over we realized it but it was too late. That score significantly dropped him but he was right near the top 10 all day. On top of that, we has finished that WOD faster than some D2 guys!!! I expect big things from this kid in the future
Genie-What an amazing performance genie put together. I felt so comfortable with her competing, knowing she was going to crush the field. Genies top performance was in the back squats finishing 2nd, and her worst was in the row where she took 12th!! Are you kidding me!?! Out of 5 workouts, her worst finish was 12th! I can only laugh at her potential. Genie did amazing all day, but she knows I’m not going to be satisfied and I know neither will she. Our goal is D1 podium finishes on the reg. With some increased work (Yes Genie be prepared to hate me) there is no doubt in my mind genie will be a D1 competitor, which will give her the chance at a spot in the regionals.
Joe- I felt very confident with my brother’s abilities leading into Saturday. He is so ungodly strong that I knew a lot of this workouts were going to play to his strengths. Unfortunately, his day did not end so well. On the very first workout of the day Joe felt a “POP” in his right hip which ultimately led to him not being able to finish the competition. Not at all what I had envisioned my brother’s day turning out like, but in the end, it is just a local competition and there is no reason to further injure yourself over that competition. With that being said, My brother still beat out over 20 guys without even doing the last workout! I know Joe is going to have his comeback success story and when he does, I put money on it that he will be at the top of the podium.
Greg & Adam- Both of these guys did amazing. Do not let them tell you otherwise. Maybe they didn’t feel good about their own performances but they competed in Division 1, In So-Cal (which is the hardest/biggest region) which is a testament in itself. Greg is still on active duty, so while all the other competitors were training their asses off for this competition, Greg was putting it 12+ hour days swimming, diving and DOIN’ WORK. To do what he does for work and still be able to hang with the D1 guys is pretty god damn good to me. Adam, Is a killer. He had some SNAFUs But fuck, we know what he needs to work on and I will make sure that those weaknesses will not be exposed like that again. With a little bit of Technique work, I guarantee Adam will be someone to watch out for.
What I left with….
I was so proud of how our competitors left it all on the field. Watching Adam go unbroken on the last KB Swings, Genie holding on for dear life, Josie absolutely murdering her heats, I couldn’t have been happier with them. Not to mention, our support crew we had!! We were rolling deep all day! We kicked people out of our areas, took over the floor and made it clear who we were. I was so stoked to see our members there in black & red cheering on their fellow gym rats.
People know who we are now. We are not just another CrossFit gym. In my opinion we had a spectacular showing with our spectators screaming uncontrollably and our athletes putting up strong numbers all day. We are on the block now, and we for sure aren’t going anywhere. For those of you that competed, take 5 minutes to congratulate yourself, if you haven’t already done so. Then get back to work. I will not settle and neither should you. We shut our mouths, keep our heads down, stay in the shadows and fucking train. And we train fucking hard. We turn our weaknesses into strengths, and our strengths even better. We leave no rock unturned and let nothing stop us. We are building a freight train here. Once we get rolling, nothing will get in our way….
