Athlete Spotlight: Katie McConnell
My name is Katie McConnell and I am 18 years old and have been a member of CrossFit Reality since April of this year. I have been doing CrossFit for almost a year now and although I did throw up on my first class I loved it from the very beginningJ I work out right now with my Mom (Donna) and my older Sister (Allysa) but I would love to find someone closer to my own age to work out with who enjoys CrossFit as much as I do. What I love the most about CrossFit and more importantly Reality is the community of people that cheer you on and support you every step of the way. I have been in sports all of my life, mostly soccer but it is just not the same. In soccer I am used to everyone cheering you on when you are winning, or running fast or just doing something great in the game. In CrossFit I have received the most cheers when I am last, or struggling or just trying to get that last rep in. It is such a great feeling to know the kind of support that surrounds you in and out of the gym. I love the physical changes that I have seen with my body but what I love even more is the mental change that I have felt. I lost my Dad a few years ago and dealing with his death really brought me down as I felt mentally and physically depressed and defeated. I started CrossFit due to my Family really seeing that I needed something to challenge me in a different way and from the moment I joined I felt myself getting stronger in every aspect of my life. Working out helps release stress and tension in my life and by doing CrossFit I feel as though I can now accomplish anything in life. I will admit I have not been consistent lately but if it was not for the amazing and thoughtful coaches who have reached out to me (Dustin & Paul) I may have stopped which is not what I want to do at all. I am back now working out more consistently with my Mom in the morning but would like to maybe start coming at night to maybe meet other people who have the same love for CrossFit that I do. My goal would to be able to compete alongside my sister in a future CrossFit competition.
Thank you again Coach Paul for giving me this opportunity to tell everyone about myself. I look forward to meeting more people and getting back in to work out more often and more consistent!
